Just came across your piece about meeting Derek Marlowe and what an influence he had been to you as a teenager. I was one of his step-children although I considered him more of a father and mentor. I always asked him for suggestions of novels to read and at a young age (around 14) I was into Ed McBain, Raymond Chandler and F Scott Fitzgerald; our home was full of books, so I could just pick them from the shelves.
It was lovely to read something about him and it made me realise that his guidance in my teens also influenced almost every choice I have made since (I’m now 47).

I just read your article on Dangerous Minds about Kate Bush. Here’s a talented young lady who is currently being compared to the likes of Kate, Siouxie Sioux, Feist, Annie Clark, etc, although personally I think she’s entirely unique. I have been to see her play about 5 or 6 times in the past year (she’s touring right now) and she’s absolutely captivating, mesmerizing, magical! Oh, and she’s an absolute sorceress on the toy piano!
Eliza Rickman is the name to watch!
Enjoy!

In your piece on Derek Marlowe lasy year, you mentioned a interview you did with him in 1984.
Any chance of posting this, say in time for the 15th anniversary of his death next month?

Hi Paul,
I saw your post of your scrapbook from Ken Russell’s Altered States. Do you have anything on the Tommy film?
Hi Matt
I had a look and couldn’t find some of the clippings I have, but did come across a 3-page section from ‘World of Horror’ magazine. Is this of any interest?
Best
